About Us: Employee of the Year
Employee of the Year
The Arc recognizes one outstanding employee each year and that employee is honored at the annual meeting during our Celebration of Excellence.
FY09 Employee of the Year
This year the Management Team had a dilemma when it became time to choose The Arc’s Employee of the Year from among this year’s Employees of the Month. When it was time to vote they ended up with a TIE!! There were two employees who were both very deserving of this award that the team was unable to decide between them. So it was decided that this year The Arc of Howard County would have two Employees of the Year. They are Marie Hicks and Julie Rosekrans. We are delighted to have these two excellent staff members receive this award. Congratulations to Marie and Julie for a job well done!
FY08 Employee of the Year
J.C. Daughaday has been with The Arc of Howard County since 2004. Previously a Program Specialist in an enclave, he worked directly with people offering the structure, support and encouragement they need to succeed. J.C’s performance as a Program Specialist was one of consistent high regard for people’s lives and productivity as well as teaching and reinforcing skills necessary to improve.
J.C.’s natural talents as a supervisor made him a sought after candidate to fill the position of Job Coach. As a Job Coach, J.C. demonstrates superior moral strength and integrity. He believes people with developmental disabilities deserve the same opportunities in the workforce as the general public. Whether he is coaching someone at a grocery store, JHU Applied Physics Lab, or caring for animals, J.C. goes beyond the call of duty to meet the needs of the Employer, learning the job to be done, and spending whatever amount of time required to ensure successful employment. This includes working flexible hours, assisting with transportation, and helping families develop necessary in-home supports.
J.C. is devoted to the people he supports. He develops warm personal relationships as evidenced by watching his daily interactions, or hearing him making individual phone calls to wish someone a happy birthday, holiday or express his sympathies for a loss.
J.C. is a team player, and an unsung hero. He consistently takes on additional tasks, often unknown to his team. Most recently, J.C. has been an effective spokesperson to meet with Arc Board Members and a County Councilperson. He has taken them to meet people we support and share their stories with great pride. J.C.’s passion for what he does is clearly demonstrated day to day in his words, actions, and the lives he touches. He is truly an asset not only to The Arc but to Howard County.
